The Shepherd's Charitable Fund Story

The Shepherd's Charitable Fund is run by a husband and wife who are also the directors of Jiffy Trucks Ltd. The story begins back in 1985 when they had nothing and had to sell their house to pay off their debts before the bank closed their business.

Four years later Jiffy Trucks had really taken off and they were now employing 20 people. The company was now doing well and they were so grateful to the Lord that they determined to give something substantial back to him. It wasn't long later that The Shepherd's Charitable Fund began and the first Christian venture to benefit was Jubilee Outreach Yorkshire (JOY).

In 1992 the council decided that they wanted to regenerate the land where Jiffy trucks had their factory. They were renting the building they were operating from and a further 15 years was remianing on the lease. The coucil offered to pay Jiffy trucks to move out but the directors instead requested an acre of land. The deal was done and the directors purchased a further neigbouring acre - the problem was that they now had no money and only 1 year in which to place a factory on the land.

Many months passed and it seemed that nothing was going to be able to happen and then someone approached the directors and offered to lend them £100,000! The bank then offered to match this money with a loan and the factory was erected in less than 2 months so as to meet the 1 year deadline set by the council. When the first factory was completed the builder was in need of work and agreed to build another factory at a much reduced price.

All seemed to be going well, with 2 factories complete but they then couldn't find any tenants for them. Jiffy Trucks was operating from one of the factories but they didn't need anything like the room that was available to them - but God had a plan for the space - it was taken up by things donated to JOY that needed storing before being driven to Romania.

Quite soon after this they were approached by someone that offered a considerable amount of money to buy both factories. The deal was completed and the money from the sale spent on developing the remainder of the surrounding land - Jubilee Way trading estate, complete with 12 units, was now finished.

Over the years Jiffy Trucks has continued to grow and The shepherd's Charitable Fund has therefore been able to grow also - enabling more Christian ventures to be supported regularly. In 2002 the Fund was supporting 2 Christian organisations but is now regularly helping the work of 12 missions.

The vision for the fund is for the giving to remain sustainable long-term by passing on the income raised from various ventures - including Jiffy Trucks, Property and the Jubilee Way Trading Estate.

The Fund chooses which missions to support by seeking the will of the Lord on every venture that He places before them. They aim to be faithful to Him as it is His money that He has blessed them with.
